krafton® FRP profiles for Railway Infrastructure

The pultrusion production process combines glass fibre strands and resin systems to create an extremely strong but lightweight material. Following the approval of FRP as a structural material by the German Federal Railway Authority (EBA), the use of glass fibre components has become increasingly common in railway construction and railway infrastructure. Rapid on-the-spot assembly and the ease with which the profiles can be adapted make glass fibre-reinforced plastic profiles attractive, even for large structures that are built on site. FRP is characterised by good electrical insulation, a long service life, and low maintenance costs in addition to many other interesting properties.

EBA approval for krafton® FRP Profiles

krafton® has supplied handrails, safety rails and FRP profiles for industry, HVAC and offshore for many decades. We use our long-standing experience of 40 years to produce fibre-reinforced plastic profiles that increase safety in railway environments.

The recent approval awarded to us by the EBA (21.51-21izbia/030-2101#008-(011/18-ZUL)) means that krafton® can now also supply FRP profiles for structures made from fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) for infrastructure to the national railway operators in the Netherlands (NS), Belgium (SNCB/NMBS), Germany (DB), France (SNCF and RATP), Switzerland (CFF) and Italy (FS).

These GRP profiles, which include tube profiles, box section profiles and bridge deck planking, can be used to construct a wide range of different systems such as level crossings, bridge decks, cable ducts, work platforms and cleaning platforms alongside railway tracks

FRP railings and parapets for Rail Infrastructure and DB

We assemble extremely stable, corrosion-resistant and visually attractive parapets and railings from FRP structural profiles for Deutsche Bahn and Railway Infrastructure. Because the FRP material is a good electrical insulator, no expensive earthing arrangements are required for the structures. The maintenance costs for fibre-reinforced plastic profiles are also minimal.

GRP structures are ideal for replacing unsafe wooden and steel housings, parapets and fencing when modernising or building new railway bridges. GRP is suitable for use in level crossing barriers and is a durable replacement material. In the case of bridge deck components, the positive characteristics of GRP mainly relate to cost optimisation and enhanced safety.

FRP stair units for Railway Infrastructure and Deutsche Bahn

You can use our FRP profiles to construct non-slip treads and sturdy handrails on a base structure made from EBA-approved GRP structural profiles. Building structures in FRP saves time and money. Thanks to their light weight, FRP stairs do not require extensive concrete foundations to be poured during railway construction work.

Simple and rapid on-the-spot installation also saves time and avoids the expense of having to close a railway section, which would be required if different and much heavier materials were used.

In addition, stair units based on GRP systems offer high safety, have an extremely long service life and do not require expensive maintenance.
